Manual therapy, also known as mobilization or manipulative therapy, is a form of hands-on treatment where a therapist carefully moves the tissues and joints of the body to restore movement and relieve pain.
This can come in many forms including:
Effleurage is used to familiarize the patient to the therapist’s movement over the body and to encourage movement of lymphatic and venous return.
Petrissage uses a combination of kneading and compression like movements to increase circulation, breakdown/ mobilise adhesions in damaged tissue.
